Hotel Can Roca Nou Spain: Michelin-Starred Magic Awaits!
Hotel Can Roca Nou Spain: Michelin-Starred Magic…and a Few Quirks!
Okay, folks, buckle up. This isn’t your average TripAdvisor regurgitation. This is my take on Hotel Can Roca Nou, the place that promised “Michelin-Starred Magic,” and… well, let’s just say it delivered the magic, sprinkled with a little bit of… character.
First Impressions & Accessibility… or the Lack Thereof (Mostly)
Honestly, the first thing that hit me wasn’t the stunning architecture (which is gorgeous, by the way). It was the uphill walk from the car park. And while they do have a car park (Car park [on-site], Car park [free of charge], Car power charging station), navigating it with luggage felt like a mini Everest expedition. Now, I’m not in a wheelchair, but I am a klutz, and let me tell you, that cobblestone path… it’s a doozy. (Elevator, Facilities for disabled guests) exist, but the initial approach could be better designed. (Accessibility) needs some improvement. This is definitely something to consider for anyone with mobility issues. (Taxi service) is available, which is a lifesaver, but factor that into your budget.
The Rooms: Sanctuary… with a Side of Questionable TV Choices
Once you do reach the promised land, the rooms are pretty spectacular. (Available in all rooms: Air conditioning, Alarm clock, Bathrobes, Bathroom phone, Bathtub, Blackout curtains, Carpeting, Closet, Coffee/tea maker, Complimentary tea, Daily housekeeping, Desk, Extra long bed, Free bottled water, Hair dryer, High floor, In-room safe box, Interconnecting room(s) available, Internet access – LAN, Internet access – wireless, Ironing facilities, Laptop workspace, Linens, Mini bar, Mirror, Non-smoking, On-demand movies, Private bathroom, Reading light, Refrigerator, Safety/security feature, Satellite/cable channels, Scale, Seating area, Separate shower/bathtub, Shower, Slippers, Smoke detector, Socket near the bed, Sofa, Soundproofing, Telephone, Toiletries, Towels, Umbrella, Visual alarm, Wake-up service, Wi-Fi [free], Window that opens.) My room was HUGE, with a massive bed you could get lost in and a view that’d make a seasoned Instagrammer weep with joy. The (Blackout curtains) are an absolute godsend for late sleepers like myself. The (Coffee/tea maker) was a lifesaver during those early morning moments of existential dread. And the (Complimentary tea)? Well, I’m a sucker for a good cuppa.
Here's the fun part, though. The (Satellite/cable channels)… They had like, EVERY channel in the world except the one I wanted. (And yes, I watched on-demand movies, it's the perks of luxurious hotel life)
Dining, Drinking, & Snacking: Michelin Dreams & Buffet Realities
Alright, the food. This is where Can Roca Nou truly shines. The main restaurant, obviously, is the jewel in the crown. (Restaurants: A la carte in restaurant, Asian cuisine in restaurant, Bar, Bottle of water, Breakfast [buffet], Breakfast service, Buffet in restaurant, Coffee/tea in restaurant, Coffee shop, Desserts in restaurant, Happy hour, International cuisine in restaurant, Poolside bar, Salad in restaurant, Snack bar, Soup in restaurant, Vegetarian restaurant, Western cuisine in restaurant). Getting a reservation is a battle, so book well in advance. It’s (Michelin-Starred) for a reason. The tasting menu… pure artistry. Each dish was a work of edible art, flavors exploding in my mouth like tiny fireworks. I’m not even kidding. The wine pairings… chef’s kiss. Truly an experience I’ll never forget.
And the (Breakfast [buffet])? Meh. It was fine. Standard stuff: eggs, bacon, pastries, mediocre coffee. Nothing to write home about, especially after the Michelin-star dinner. The (Breakfast service) was attentive, but honestly, I was still dreaming of the previous night's truffle oil.
The (Poolside bar) was a nice touch for a quick cocktail, and the (Coffee shop) offered decent coffee and some tasty pastries. And if you are on the look out for some (Vegetarian restaurant) options, they have them. I'll give them that.
Ways to Relax (and Sweat): Spa, Sauna, & Surprising Fitness
Okay, let's talk R&R. The (Spa) area is beautiful. (Body scrub, Body wrap, Foot bath, Massage, Steamroom, Spa/sauna) were all on offer. I splurged on a massage, and it was heavenly. The (Sauna) and (Steamroom) were also great for de-stressing.
I also tried the (Fitness center). “Tried” is the operative word. It was small, a little outdated, and the equipment seemed… skeptical of me. But hey, it's there if you are the type. The (Swimming pool [outdoor]) was a real treat, especially with that amazing view. I spent hours lounging by the pool, sipping cocktails and soaking up the sun. The (Pool with view) is a definite highlight.
Cleanliness, Safety & the Weirdness of COVID (or, How They Handled the Pandemic)
Let’s be real, this is 2024. Safety is paramount. Can Roca Nou takes this seriously, thankfully. (Anti-viral cleaning products, Cashless payment service, Daily disinfection in common areas, Hand sanitizer, Hygiene certification, Individually-wrapped food options, Physical distancing of at least 1 meter, Professional-grade sanitizing services, Room sanitization opt-out available, Rooms sanitized between stays, Safe dining setup, Sanitized kitchen and tableware items, Staff trained in safety protocol, Sterilizing equipment). Their (Staff trained in safety protocol) was excellent. I even opted out of room sanitization! I had fun, it was great.
The (Rooms sanitized between stays) made me feel safe.
Services & Conveniences: The Good, the Bad, & the Gift Shop
They have a LOT of services. (Air conditioning in public area, Audio-visual equipment for special events, Business facilities, Cash withdrawal, Concierge, Contactless check-in/out, Convenience store, Currency exchange, Daily housekeeping, Doorman, Dry cleaning, Elevator, Essential condiments, Facilities for disabled guests, Food delivery, Gift/souvenir shop, Indoor venue for special events, Invoice provided, Ironing service, Laundry service, Luggage storage, Meeting/banquet facilities, Meetings, Meeting stationery, On-site event hosting, Outdoor venue for special events, Projector/LED display, Safety deposit boxes, Seminars, Shrine, Smoking area, Terrace, Wi-Fi for special events, Xerox/fax in business center) The (Concierge) was incredibly helpful with recommendations and booking activities. (Dry cleaning) and (Laundry service) are lifesavers. The (Luggage storage) was convenient for my late checkout.
And the (Gift/souvenir shop)? Okay, it exists. It's… there. It's got the usual overpriced trinkets.
For Family & Fun: (Babysitting service, Family/child friendly, Kids facilities, Kids meal) While not a primary focus, they do cater, so no worries.
Getting Around: (Airport transfer, Bicycle parking, Car park [free of charge], Car park [on-site], Car power charging station, Taxi service, Valet parking) This does have everything for you.
The Verdict: Michelin Dreams and Real-Life Warts
Would I go back? Absolutely. The Michelin-starred experience alone is worth the trip. But, go in with your eyes open. It’s not a perfect, flawless experience, but that’s what makes it human. Embrace the quirks, laugh at the minor inconveniences, and savor the magic. Can Roca Nou has the capacity to create lasting memories.
My Quirky Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars (minus half a star for the uphill battle).

Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because this isn't your perfectly polished travel brochure. This is the raw, unfiltered, slightly-hungover account of my "relaxing" (ha!) week at Hotel Can Roca Nou in Spain. Let's see if I can actually remember it all…
The Great Can Roca Nou Debacle (Week of May 10th - 17th…ish)
Day 1: Arrival & Instant Regret (Sort Of)
2:00 PM: Barcelona Airport Meltdown (Pre-Hotel): Okay, so I thought I booked a direct flight. Turns out, the "layover in Madrid" wasn't as brief or comfortable as the airline implied. Picture me, crumpled in a plastic chair, fighting the urge to eat an entire family-sized bag of crisps. The flight itself was fine, once I managed to separate myself from the woman who was trying to convince me the Earth was flat. (I swear I think people do it for fun now.)
5:00 PM: Arrival at Can Roca Nou (and "Wow, This is…quaint."): The taxi driver knew some English, bless his heart. The hotel, nestled amongst those olive groves, looked… serene. A little too serene. My first impression was "rustic chic," which, in the real world, translates to "a charmingly drafty old farmhouse." Check-in was easy enough. The lobby? Packed with mismatched antiques that looked both elegant and weird.
6:00 PM: Room Reveal - The "Room with a View of…a Tree.": My room. Oh, the room. It wasn't exactly what the website photos promised. Think "vintage charm" again. The bed was comfy enough, tho' it looked like it was from a storybook. The "view" was mostly a very enthusiastic tree. But hey, at least the water in the shower ran hot, which I think is a victory in itself. I immediately thought it was perfect for the week, maybe a little too far from the main town, but perfect.
7:30 PM: Dinner - Tapas and Tourist Trauma: They had a wonderful spread of Tapas. The restaurant was packed, mostly with people who seemed to have known each other for years. I, on the other hand, mostly just watched the locals doing their thing. I ordered the patatas bravas, because, well, it seemed like a staple. It was good, I would even go as far as to say amazing. I swear, the best patatas bravas I've ever had.
Day 2: Exploring & Existential Questions (aka, Too Much Olive Oil)
- 9:00 AM: Breakfast - The "Almost Burned the Toast" Incident: I, uh, slightly incinerated my toast. Ok, maybe I burned it badly. The breakfast buffet at the hotel was good, but I had trouble working the toaster. I blame jetlag, but honestly, maybe I'm not cut out for complex tasks like toasting bread.
- 10:30 AM: Village Stroll - The "Lost in Translation" Disaster: I decided to be adventurous and actually walk the streets that surrounded the hotel. I tried to ask a fruit vendor for oranges. The vendor, however, spoke very little English. I ended up just holding out some money, hoping for the best. I got a bag full of what I think were apples. I wasn't sure what to do with them, so I gave them to a dog I saw on the side of the road.
- 1:00 PM: Lunch at a Local Restaurant (Yes, the Apples Were a Sign!): I found a quaint little place. The food was good, but the waiter spent more time chatting with his buddies than he did waiting on the customers. I ended up ordering something from the menu that didn't really make sense. Don't ask me what was in it. It was a weird mix of beans, and mystery meat. I ate it anyway, because I'm polite.
- 3:00 PM: Back to the Hotel - The "Nap of Despair": I napped. Hard. I woke up feeling like I'd been run over by a truck.
Day 3: The Paella Odyssey & Emotional Rollercoasters
- 10:00 AM: The Pool - The "Sunburn of Doom": I slathered on sunscreen, I swear! But apparently, Spanish sun has a vendetta against me. I spent the afternoon looking like a lobster.
- 12:00 PM: Cooking Class - Paella Perfection…Or Not?: The hotel had a cooking class. I signed up. I thought, "How difficult can paella be?" Turns out, very. After one hour, my paella looked charred at the bottom. I don't know how I did it, but I did it! The chef was very nice, but I think he was suppressing a laugh.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner - The "I Ate My Feelings" Feast: I tried to avoid another "mystery meat" situation. I had so many emotions. So, I ordered the biggest, richest meal imaginable. My stomach, however, didn’t appreciate my emotional eating. I regretted every decision.
Day 4: The Lost Day
- A blur. A haze. All I remember is a lot of sleep, the room, and the tree.
Day 5: The "Wine and Wonder" Day
- 10:00 AM: A little more exploring.: Went to the town. Found a little store. I wandered around, looking confused, but also having a good time.
- 1:00 PM: Wine Tasting - The "I Secretly Like Wine" Revelation: A bit of a walk, but worth it. It was a small, family-run vineyard, tucked away in the hills. I'm not typically a wine person. Okay, I hate wine. But their stuff… it was good. I'm not sure why, but I felt truly present, and for the first time, I knew I was on a great vacation.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner - The Post-Wine Euphoria: I went back to that restaurant. This time I knew what I was going to order. I had a plate of tapas. This time, it was a total success, and I felt like a local.
- 7:00 PM: The "Stars in your eyes": The sky was so big. I found a little bench. I sat. And… just watched the stars. I may have cried.
Day 6: Farewell and a Few Regrets
- 10:00 AM: Hotel Farewell - packing: I am starting to like the hotel, and the drafty room. I don't want to leave.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch: The patatas bravas again. I ate three plates.
- 2:00 PM: Travel to the airport: The taxi arrived.
- 6:00 PM: Another Layover: I saw the woman who told me the earth was flat. She smiled. I smiled back.
The Verdict:
Would I go back to Can Roca Nou? Maybe. It wasn't the most luxurious trip. It wasn't perfect. But there was a charm, a realness that really made it worth it. And man, those patatas bravas… I will forever chase that culinary high. Just maybe I'll pack extra sunscreen next time, and learn how to toast bread. And maybe, just maybe, I'll learn some conversational Spanish, and maybe, just maybe, I'll learn to relax.
i-City Smart Home Paradise: WiFi & Netflix Included! (Shah Alam)
Okay, so... Hotel Can Roca Nou. Michelin-Starred. Is it *actually* worth the hype, or is it just another fancy Instagram trap?
What's the *deal* with the food? Is it pretentious? Are the portions ridiculously small?
The rooms... are they as fancy as the food? What about the views?
What's the vibe like at the hotel? Is it stuffy or welcoming?
Okay, spill the tea! Any epic fails or awkward moments? Anything to *avoid*?
Is it kid-friendly?
Anything else I should know before I book?
